Have been diagnosed with Endometrium Hyperplasia, & Atypia Stage 1

Going on cruise in 2025 august, just received this diagnoses , I’m 68 years of age plus I have an ovarian cyst. Been trying to get insurance for the two week cruise, and because of diagnoses they want £1,220 for the cover for two weeks ,  which is awfully expensive almost cost of the cruise!  I have had the myrena implant implanted two months ago,  do I have to declare this when looking for cover that covers this cruise , does this diagnoses mean I have cancer or not if pre cancerous then it’s not cancer is it?

  • Hello and thanks for your post

Unfortunately, we can't advise on any particular travel insurance companies, as they do seem to assess people on a very individual basis, and exclusion clauses can vary between companies. It’s really about ringing as many companies as you can to see who will be most helpful to you.

It's always best however, to declare all your medical history including a pre cancer diagnosis to insurance companies when travelling abroad even if you are not receiving any treatment. As far as I know, you need to disclose things like this otherwise there could be a problem if you were to make a claim, even if it wasn't related to your current condition.

Our website has some information on travel insurance that you may find helpful.

Macmillan Cancer Support have a community forum on travel insurance where patients can make recommendations to each other.

I hope you are able to sort out an affordable policy. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
