High dose Vit C infusion - any contraindications?

Hi, I’ve been treated with chemo-radiotherapy and brachytherapy for cervical cancer (gastric type cells, adenocarcenoma) and I’m between scans to look at ‘suspicious’ nodules which could indicate spread with nodules in the peritoneum,

I’m considering taking high dose Vitamin C infusions, having already taken a G6PD blood test to check that its it’s ok for me.

If I start a new course of chemotherapy, and potentially immunotherapy, are there any contraindications for IVC in general or at particular times before, during or after a cycle of treatment? I’m struggling to find valid research to help me to decide or turn down this protocol.

Many thanks,

  • Hi Melanie G and thank you for posting,

I am sorry to learn of your situation this must be a difficult time.

The best person to discuss this with would be your specialist or specialist nurse (CNS) as they know your situation. As cancer information nurses, we cannot recommend treatment or give a medical opinion.

Although early research into vitamin C has promising results, more research is needed and the evidence around vitamin C and its interaction with chemotherapy is unclear.

We have some general information about vitamins and supplements which may be useful.

I am sorry I cannot be more helpful on this occasion and wish you the best with the rest of your treatment. If you would like to talk things through with one of our nurses on the helpline, the freephone number to call is 0808 800 4040 and we are available between 9 am and 5 pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Jemma
