Bowel cancer

My husband has bowel cancer and just completed 6 months of radiochemotherapy, and neuoadjuvent chemotherapy. The next step is surgery. My question is, how long after the chemo finishes is he likely to have the operation? He is panicking it will be left for months?

Thank you for any advice

  • Hi there and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your husband's situation, this must be a difficult time for you both.

I'm afraid no one here will be able to say exactly when your husband will have his surgery as there will be variations between hospitals and individuals situations.

Of course, it is important after chemotherapy that your husband's blood counts stabilise prior to having surgery but it is the team involved in his care who can say when the surgery is likely to take place.

I am sure the doctors will want your husband to have surgery as soon as possible but the time frame only they will be able to say, so do ask this question when your husband next speaks with them.

    All the best
