grade 2 ILC 23.8 mms, uncertainty about lymphovascular invasion but clear sentinel node biopsies

My report says grade 2 ILC 23.8 mms and there was uncertainty about lymphovascular invasion but I had sentinel node biopsies which were clear. What does it mean

  • Hi Wisteria 77 and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear of your recent diagnosis of breast cancer and appreciate you having some questions.

The best people to explain your biopsy results are your hospital consultant or specialist nurse. Your hospital specialist should review your results at your next appointment when discussing treatment options.

The grade indicates how cancer cells and tissue appear under a microscope and whether they resemble normal cells.

Invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC)  starts in the cells that line the lobules and can spread into the surrounding breast tissue.

Your surgeon typically performs a sentinel lymph node biopsy because the sentinel lymph node is the first lymph node found in the armpit. This node is important as it is usually the initial location where breast cancer can spread.

All this information is required in order to  help your consultant plan the most appropriate course of treatment.

    I hope this information helps.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards
