MostynGirl - waiting for colonoscopy biopsy results. How long do they take?

I had a high reading of10 in my CEA blood test back in July after being passed from team to team I finally had a colonoscopy 2 weeks ago I had polyps removed and sent for testing had 4 biopsies taken and 2 x haemorrhoids and mild diverticulosis.

As you can imagine I am a wreck waiting on results. The nurse in recovery said there were no signs of cancer but I have since learnt that they can not tell without the  biopsies results.

Do you have any advice or guide to waiting times etc to help put my mind at rest x

  • Hello Fergus 18 and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation. I know how anxious making it can be to wait for the results of tests. Unfortunately, until the pathologist has looked at the biopsies under a microscope no one will be able to tell you more. It did however sound encouraging that the nurse did not see any worrying features.

Try if you can to keep an open mind. Polyps are very common and hopefully, this will be all they are.

Try and keep yourself busy and your mind occupied until you know more.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,

    Catherine
