endometrial cancer staging

I’ve been diagnosed with endometrial cancer stage1 grade 2, I’ve had all the usual tests hysteroscopy scans etc. That grade is on all my paperwork. I had a full hysterectomy yesterday with two sentinel lympe nodes sent for biopsy. .I was told the stage was highly curable as I’m fit and healthy with no other issues.  My consultants registar told me I can’t be sure it’s grade1 stage 2 until the biopsy from the nodes and womb have been biopsed as it could be much higher. Please could you help as I’m  so worried it’s another 3 week wait and I’m at the end of my teather.

Thank you

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation.

You are probably still in hospital so I would talk to the doctors and nurses there and tell them about your concerns. Your team are the best possible people who can tell you how long it will all take. The pathologist (doctor who looks at the cells under a microscope) will spend a long time examining your tissue. There are so many different tests that are now done and it is important that they have all the relevant information to work out the stage and grade of your cancer.

I can imagine that it is extremely frustrating for you but unfortunately it does take a bit of time getting all the information together.

I do hope that you know more soon. You may have been allocated a specialist nurse so do talk to them if you can.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the best,

    Catherine
