laryngeal cancer

Hi, I just wanted to ask everyone if what I currently have is something I need to get checked out or if I’m overreacting. So I’m an 18 year old male and I smoke. Recently I have had a feeling of sort of what feels like a lump in the back of my throat (it’s weird to explain since I’ve never felt anything like it but that’s the best way I can describe it). I tend to worry a lot about small things so I decided to  search up what I was feeling online (I know that’s not always the best idea) and the only other symptom I’ve really been suffering with is fatigue and sometimes wheezing when breathing (not often at all for the wheezing though). As I said I do tend to worry but I just wanted to make sure wether this is something I should get checked out as I know if it is anything like cancer it’s always best to act quickly, like I said I could just be overthinking it though so any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry you are worried about your health. Many people contact us because they are concerned that symptoms they have might be caused by cancer. We are unable to diagnose anyone and the best advice we can give is to go and see your doctor if your symptoms persist.

There are many medical explanations for symptoms and the majority will not turn out to be cancer especially at your young age. The majority of cancers develop in people over the age of sixty. But it is always sensible to get any problems you have checked out to be on the safe side.

Try if you can to give up smoking as it is best for your overall health in the long run. Your GP can offer support with this.

If we can help in any other way please do contact us again. If you would prefer to speak to one of the nurses directly, you can telephone us on 0808 800 4040. We are here from Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
