Tongue cancer

I have to have a biopsy on my tongue due to a white patch after I bit my tongue badly earlier in the year.
I am a smoker and drink but I have just had the most horrible year after my husband of 33 years left nearly one year ago with little explanation. I struggle with my mental health and feel like I have hit a wall of choices and I know what’s right but worry about all of it and how I can cope

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

I can appreciate your worry and concern at this time. White patches on the mouth are often called leucoplakia. These patches can have abnormal cells, but not be cancer. Often they are monitored. Biopsies are done to find out more about the nature of the white patch. There is effective treatment such as laser therapy, or minor surgery, to remove the white patches. So, bear this in mind, and try to not overthink things. White patches are seen more often in people that smoke and drink. I appreciate addressing this is not easy. Maybe try and reduce one of these, or both, if you can. The NHS website every mind matters has useful tips, help, and resources on coping with anxiety, and low mood.

Do speak with your GP about how you are feeling, as they may be able to arrange some support for you.

    I hope this helps,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
