dizziness

Hello,

I’m 23 years old (F), in 2019 i had an extremely painful headache that lasted every single day for about a month. Nothing helped at all. Finally it went away on its own but i was throwing up and really struggling with the pain at the time. Anyway, once the headache went away, i went to my opticians for a regular check up, and was told that i needed to go to hospital immediately as my optic nerve was swollen. I was sent and was told it’s likely a brain tumour (it wasn’t.) I was given a CT scan that night, which came back normal, but there was a shadow on my optic nerve (nothing sinister they said). They then sent me for an MRI, which also came back clear and i was booked in for a spinal tap a few weeks later. Then, covid hit and that was cancelled as it wasn’t considered urgent.

I haven’t had a bad headache like that since, but about 2/3 years ago, one night i was sat on my sofa watching TV when all of a sudden i felt like i was about to faint. Id never felt anything like it. my entire body went numb and my legs were shaking. i was convinced i had diabetes for some reason. ever since then, ive been experiencing panic attacks, dizziness, general anxiety, heart palpitations etc every single day. i’ve spoken to doctors, ive had so many blood tests, ive had ECG’s, but everything always comes back normal. ive been put on fluoxetine which helps panic attacks, but i still get every other symptom.

Is this anxiety? i was also diagnosed with PTSD, depression and anxiety. My health anxiety is so so so bad that im convinced im slowly dying. i’m constantly in a state of panic and i dont know what else to do.

i truly hope im not alone in this.

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation.

We can't diagnose why you are getting those symptoms but it does sound like your doctors have done lots of tests to try and understand why you are getting these symptoms.

You have posted on a Cancer Chat forum but it is probably best to talk to your GP about how anxious you are feeling. There maybe some help with counselling that you can get so do ask them.

There are various anxiety charities that may be helpful in trying to help manage some of the feelings that you are experiencing.

There is an NHS charity called Every Mind Matters and there is also an Anxiety UK charity and a charity called Mind UK

You may find one of the charities better then another but do give them a go as you might find it helpful.

You may also find it useful to speak to others who are in a similar situation to yourself on one of the above links.

I wish you all the best and do hope that you find the help that you are looking for.

    Best wishes,

    Catherine
