ct scan results

Posting on behalf of my mum, she had a scan looking for bowel cancer over 2 weeks ago and we can't get through to anyone for results, doctors are adamant they wont get them as it was referred to the hospital but everyone ive spoke to at the hospital are clueless, was told by the hospital that did the scan that the results have been sent over but cant find a way to speak to who referred her for the scan, shes not getting better and its getting difficult to watch her struggle knowing there could be an answer to all of it, any suggestions what to do now?

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

I can appreciate that this is difficult. You could try to ring the gastro intestinal (GI) team directly at the hospital. Scans can take over 2 weeks to get reported on by a consultant in the scanning department, before they are sent back to the referring doctor/team. So it may be that it is in transit so to speak, and should be available soon. Scan results would be sent to the GI Team for review and discussion, before contacting the patient. The GP surgery would receive communication from the hospital as well, but this can take a few weeks too.

There is the option of contacting the PALS (patient advice liason team) service at the hospital, who can look into this as well.

I hope this helps, and you get to hear soon.

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
