Being diagnosed with cancer whatever type is a shock and very worrying. It took me 9 weeks to obtain a GP appt for this large what I thought was a freckle. Even with providing a clear image I was told no appts available. Once seen 9 weeks later on an urgent pathway, then a biopsy 4 weeks on from that, it was thought it may be in-situ...5 weeks later the biopsy result showing Stage 1A melanoma. I was told it was up to me whether I followed the recommended local wide excisional surgery to this melanoma area, but the second procedure would afford me more protection of it returning. I have agreed to this second procedure, however, this next surgery is not until 3 January 2025, which to me feels alarming as this is several weeks after the biopsy result. I am of course very worried with such a gap the cells remaining will grow and spread. The melanoma was on top right thigh, no lypmph nodes palpable. I am otherwise fairly healthy 71 year old female. Is there an ideal time limit between biopsy and having a local wide excision procedure? By Jan 2025 it will be almost 12 weeks since from original excisional biopsy. Thank yo
