Head neck throat cancer stage 3.

Been diagnosed after 2 years of doctors appointment.  Just told me sinus problems take pain killers. Headaches got so bad I paid private ent and the took 3 mins to discover tumour but now stage 3 . How do I deal with the anger I feel with being fobbed off 17 times from hospital and doctors.  I just can't control my anger and concentrate on my survival.  Start chemo next week but my mindset is that I really don't care now. Is this curable . Think I'm depressed after years of pain

  • Hi Bizon and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to learn about your situation and can understand your anger and frustration.

If you have not yet done so, it may be helpful to contact the hospital's Patients Advisory and Liaison service (PALS) to inform them of the situation and how it has made you feel.

You may find counselling helpful. Anyone can obtain counselling free on the NHS, but how long the waiting list is will vary from area to area.

The NHS website has information about accessing NHS counselling.

Macmillan Cancer Support have teamed with BUPA to offer free counselling for cancer patients.

There are Maggies Centres that provide emotional support to people affected by cancer. Many of their centres have trained psychologists who can provide one-to-one or group counselling. You don't need to visit Maggie's Centre; they can provide advice and support over the phone.

I can appreciate you want to know more about your prognosis. But I’m afraid I can't tell you very much, as someone's outlook will depend on several features of their disease, and it is such a hard thing to predict.

Prognosis is a question best answered by your hospital team. This is because they are familiar with all your medical details and will know more about your situation.

I hope you find this information useful and find the strength to be able to manage your treatment.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind Regards,
    Tina
