Bladder cancer

My dad has been told he has bladder cancer which has spread to his lower lungs, we are waiting to find out how severe this is and how far it has spread to the lungs

, he is having a procedure where they are putting a pipe in his kidneys to relieve the pressure.  He thank god is feeling fairly well in him self.  I am just hoping he gets support with the bag etc on discharge as he already has a catheter.

what would the follow up be?

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry to read about your dad's situation. It's good that he is feeling relatively well in himself at the moment.

The procedure to place a tube ( likely a nephrostomy tube ) into the kidneys is usually inserted if the cancer is obstructing the ureters ( tubes that carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder).

There is some information on the NHS website about this procedure and what the follow-up care is likely to be. If your dad has a urological nurse specialist (CNS) he can contact at the hospital, they will know his situation and would be able to help clarify things a bit more for him. You often have to leave them a message and they will get back to you.

I hope this helps. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
