It checks if there is blood in your faeces small amounts invisible to the eye , it then gives you a number the higher the number the worse it is, anything above 12 i think is classified as abnormal , but the blood could be caused by many things not all of which is worrying, if its high they will probably do a colonoscopy to see what is going on

Your doctor is trying to find out the cause of your low iron levels and a FIT test will see if there is blood in the stool. If your FIT test is positive it doesn’t necessarily mean you have cancer. There are many other reasons for blood in your stool, such as diverticulitis, crohns disease or polyps.
