Spindle cell melanoma

I'm in the very early stages of tests and treatment but have been advised I have stage 3 spindle cell melanoma

I understand this to be rare but find it difficult to find much information about it, it's not even included in the list of Melanomas on this sitr

Do you have any more information please

  • Hello and thanks for posting

Spindle cell melanoma is a very rare form of melanoma. It is called spindle cell because the cancer cells look long and thin ,like spindles, under the microscope

I'm afraid I'm not aware of any patient aimed information on spindle cell melanoma. Usually a bit less is known about rare cancers. This is because there have been fewer people to study compared to the more common cancers which are seen more often so have been easier to research.

You may find it helpful to contact the Rare Cancers Alliance They give support and information to people with rare cancers. It has a forum where you might be able to meet others with the same cancer as you.

I'm sorry we can't provide more on this and hope you are able to ask more from your specialist team. If you have a specialist nurse (CNS) involved in your care then perhaps they can provide you with further information. You often have to call and leave them a message and they will get back to you.

Please contact us again if we can offer you any further information or support. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our telephone service. The number to ring is freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
