First chemo side effects

Following a routine mammogram I was diagnosed with a 6mm grade 3, triple negative, invasive ductal carcinoma. I have had lumpectomy to remove this, which at removal was 9mm, with clear margins and 4 lymph nodes which were negative. I have had my first chemotherapy on Thursday last week. I am receiving TC chemo. My question is around the side effects I am experiencing. I took my final dexamethasone on Saturday and have been feel very rough since then. My main concern is around the severe headaches, feeling of dumbness in my mouth and general feeling of my head being detached and belonging to someone else! It is the weirdest experience I've felt, is this normal? This may seem a silly question but my mind is going in all directions and I just need some reassurance that this is nothing to worry about.

  • Hi there sjt71 and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear you are having chemotherapy and the side effects you are experiencing, I can appreciate how unsettling this can be.

As you can see on the information pages about TC chemotherapy there are various side effects possible with this type of treatment and some more common than others.

The symptoms you have are linked to these medications and I would suggest a call to the chemo unit to let them know the way you are feeling. They may wish to assess you further just to make sure everything is okay so do call the number on your treatment care for advice.

I hope you feel better soon and the rest of your treatment goes well.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes

    Naomi
