Radiotherapy burns

I had 5 sessions of radiotherapy for skin cancer on the tip of ny nose just over 2 wks ago, my nose is very sore especially inside my nostrils, I originally put vaseline on it but then read that epaderm is better, it is so painful, what can I do to ease it?

Thank you

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

Unfortunately, we can't recommend products. If you have a contact for your hospital radiotherapy treatment team, then they may be able to advise on specific products. The hospital pharmacist may also be able to help, if you ring them via the hospital switchboard and explain.

The side effects from treatment should diminish over the next few weeks. Vaseline can dry out skin tissue so probably not the best to use. There a lot of moisturising products, such as Epaderm, on the market these days, most will say if they are not to be used internally, or on/in the nose. There are products that contain some local anaesthetic, but can be bought without prescription and any pharmacist could advise you on these. Anything stronger, such as products that have a steroid ingredient, may need to be prescribed by a doctor. You could also ask your GP by phone if this is suitable.

    I hope this reply helps,

    Kind regards,

    Vanda
