Egypt - is it safe to travel there with stage 4 BC mets?

Is it safe for me to fly to Egypt with stage 4 BC mets to spine ribs etc .    I can't take my pain medication out there .

  • Hi

Has your dr cleared you for travel and warned you of any complications that could occur , you really need to speak to them and I can only say your travel insurance will be very expensive .I am going on a 5 day trip to Spain and  had to exclude any prev medical conditions because was too expensive and that was after grade 1 b endometrial removed by hysterectomy 6 weeks ago , need 3 session of brachytherapy when I return ,didn't even tell them about my very recent biopsy result of a rare mouth cancer it was a nightmare trying to explain one cancer never mind 2 that are unrelated . My usual insurance company dropped me like a hot potato! It’s *** isn t it just adds even more stress , this trip was supposed to be my reward after recovery from hysterectomy and instead face a very worrying time , Good luck I hope you can get away , but hope you won’t be in too much pain if you do ? ?

  • Thankyou for answering.   I cancelled the holiday.  The pain bad ( spine mets) and no meds allowed into Egypt save for paracetamol and naproxen.

We're all worried about spinal cord compression.    Bad news last week indicates it in my lungs now.  Icant get the money back as it was a last minute deal.

    .xxxxx

  • I'm sorry to hear about your cancers. I don't know where people get strength.   I don't have it.  Xxxxxxxx

  • Don’t know what I am dealing with ,but terrified it has been there a year ,a non urgent referral from dentist and only got it made urgent because of the endometrial and freaked . It hasn’t changed in that time so only hope it hasn’t grown inwards . I think you made the right decision not going you would be stressed to bits and in pain . Try and have a wee break in this country if you can .I know how scared you must be they always say try and be positive but that’s not always possible and rather patronising  I find , Not really looking forward to my holiday now but hopefully it will distract me once I am there I have a very short fuse at the moment and crying a lot and trying to hide it from other people that’s not going to be easy on a plane etc.Even if I get through this I know I will never be the same again physically and mentally , Take care what your going through sounds truly awful

  • Hi Estella

I feel for you and hope you enjoy your trip. I was told my spine pain was a mental health problem.   It is grade 4 spread to spine ribs and sternum.  I found out in April.  I keep crying l also have a short fuse.    I not having treatment from choice  l can't tolerate side effects from pain relief.   I wake in the night crying or screaming or both.  I'm old though ( 65) lve had my life but my daughter very reliant on me.  She won't leave her flat.  I'm thinking of you and these web chats are good to let off steam.  Thinking of you.   The very best of luck xxxx

  • I am 63 daughter 21 2nd year at university would just like to see her graduate I don’t know what decision I would make if faced with chemo etc , have been told worst case scenario surgery may need to take some bone and could end up with a hole in the roof of my mouth that when I eat will come out of my nose ! So would need a plate or plug of some kind totally freaked by that the biopsy was unpleasant enough with a small hole and having to eat cold soft food for a good few days to help it heal , it still hasn’t but can eat fine now My daughter is clearly talking about what if my mum dies to other family members because she is telling me to my face and joking about it asking if I have a will etc ! The last holiday I took was after the endometrial diagnosis and she drove us to airport I ended up screaming at her to shut up and swearing ( I am swearing a lot at moment !! )and was distraught all because she was grumpy and bickering with her dad so not a good start to that holiday cannot stand fighting , shouting or grumpiness even ! at the moment so hope I don’t scream at some one this time ! If anything goes wrong I know I won’t cope well she isn’t taking us to airport this time so

  • Oh God you poor woman.  I want to hug you.

    I do wish you well.

I want to live long enough to see my pension in march.  I have palliative care.  The local hospice are outstanding.   Are you in pain ? What you taking.  ?

    X

  • No pain whatsoever never have other than after hysterectomy that’s what makes it hard was fit and healthy , planning on retiring June will be 64 nhs so at least I am on full pay for 6 month if I need it . Can’t imagine the pain you have suffered and continue to do so my worst fear ! That and chemo sounds repulsive to poison your body but I guess you do it anyway to hopefully survive for the sake of daughter I guess

  • I..m.not having any treatment.   The chemo would kill me faster than cancer lm sure.

    Good luck.

    Enjoy your holiday
