Possible side effects

Hi i finished my chemo and radiotherapy nearly a year ago for breast cancer but since the summer have had the swelling in my hands and pins/needles. i thought was due to summer but still have it and now my thumb is kinda frozen, hard to move and painful. who should i reach out to fro advice, my doctor or oncologist?  thanks

  • Hi lyndaby, sorry to hear what you are going through regarding your hand and thumb. Just wondered if you are on any medication, such as hormone blockers. I read a post on here a few days ago in which a few people mentioned thumb issues, they were on letrazole. I hope you get some answers soon. Xx

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to hear of your current symptoms.

It would be your GP who needs to assess you first about this. There are various medical musculo-skeletal conditions, such as carpal tunnel syndrome for example, that have very similar symptoms, so best not to assume that it is necessarily related to your breast cancer treatments. Your GP can advise you further.

I hope that this gets addressed for you soon,

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Yours sincerely,
