I am in exactly the same position. The hormone treatment is to reduce the amount of testosterone in your body which in turn feeds the tumour. This hopefully stops its growth or even helps to shrink it. It also helps any radiotherapy work better should you need to get it which I’d say you will. 

. Don’t worry about the length of time before your consultation, the hormone treatment is doing its job in the meantime and this is what the Doctors want.

Hi Mike,

   I had my first prostrap 6 monthly slow release hormone injection 5 months before I had my HDR and my radiation started nearly two and a half years ago.

I too was Gleason 9, PSA 11.5, T3A,  PSA now 0.03 and on oral hormones for another 10 months.

As Tel333 says you're well covered.

   I was lucky, if anyone can say that about this disease, that my cancer was still confined to the prostate, just.

Although the hormone I'm currently on, Abiraterone, covers all areas that the cancer can grow, as the Prostrap is mainly targeting the prostate.

I can see that you have got some useful comments from other forum members  who are in a similar position to yourself. 

We have some information on our website about when hormone therapy is used which you might find helpful to look at. 

Prostate Cancer UK have more information about when hormone therapy is used which you also might find helpful.

It might be a good idea to talk to your GP about what this means for you as your GP may be managing this before your appointment with the oncologist.

I am not sure whether the aim will be to offer you further treatment such as radiotherapy or chemotherapy but they will want to assess how well the hormone therapy has worked when they see you in December.
