Just a spot of advice

Hi guys,

My mother in law had a left breast mastectomy 8weeks ago and also had 3 lymph nodes removed for testing. The breast cancer she had was malignant but not metastasised,so not spreading. After 8weeks she still hasn't had any results back from the lymph nodes that were taken for sampling and as a result she is starting to feel anxious as the clinic still hasn't had the results back yet. I myself feel that this is probably a good thing as I'm pretty certain she would of heard something if she had needed further treatment but she is 82yrs old and is worried. Is this time frame normal? Is it a good or bad sign? Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

  • Hi there Ezy and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your mother in law's situation and the time it is taking for the biopsy results to come back.

Unfortunately you can't read too much into the time frame and what the results may show. As I am sure you will appreciate it can take time for results to be processed and with the current backlogs and delays in the NHS many patients are having to wait longer than ideal at the moment.

It is worth keeping in contact with the hospital at regular intervals to check if they have any news and I really do hope your mother in law hears something soon and that everything is okay.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes
