Bone metastases

I had primary breast cancer 2 years ago, I had successful treatment (mastectomy and recon on Lhs and lumpectomy on the right, chemo, and proton beam therapy) I’m in Exemestane, gosarelin and abemaciclib.
My joints have always been sore ever since my treatments but in the last month it’s really getting progressively worse. And this week it’s excruciating. I can only walk for around 30 minutes before I start to feel quite bad pain. I am taking painkillers but they aren’t doing anything. And after resting my joints are so stiff that even just standing to go to the loo is incredibly painful. I mean aches in alll my joints. Elbows, ankles, knees, hips and bone pain too. I know my body quite well now and something is definitely off
Having had cancer already I am now convinced I have mets. Any Advice welcome.

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I can appreciate your worry about the bone pain you are experiencing. While I don’t know what is causing your pain I do know that it does not necessarily mean that your cancer has spread.

As you know your medications exemestane and abemaciclib can cause joint pain but as your  symptoms have worsened, the best thing to do is to let your breast care team know about this. They are better placed to advise you further as they are familiar with all your medical details. They will assess you and may arrange some tests to understand what's causing your pain.

I'm not sure if you are taking any painkillers to manage your pain. If you are and they are not helping do let your doctor know so that they can increase or change your pain medications so you are more comfortable.

I hope your pain improves and you know more about your situation soon. Give us a ring if you want to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
