Mammogram results

Hi, my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019. Had tumour removed and chemo/radiotherapy. Has had yearly mammograms since. She had one last week and today received a letter saying she has a telephone call with the breast clinic doctor in 3 weeks.

I'm trying to reassure her that it could be nothing and surely anything more wouldn't be over the phone?

Does anyone have any experience of this or what it could mean?

Thanks x

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I appreciate this is an unsettling time for you and your mum considering what she has already been through.

Individual hospitals vary in the way their patients receive their follow up mammogram results. They can be given them face to face, by letter, or telephone ( even when it is good news). Hopefully, everything will turn out to be ok  but your mum will need her breast team to confirm this for sure for her.

I hope everything turns out to be okay. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
