Docetaxel and Phesgo

I am coming to the end of 6 cycles of treatment for Stage 4 Breast Cancer Metastatic Bone Cancer. I had radiotherapy for a spinal tumour on L5 and wear a spinal brace. I have been told after cycle 6 in December I will continue with Phesgo 3 weekly but will not visit the day care again until I have bone density treatment in March. I am wondering why I will be stopping Docetaxel and if so will the cancer not return and grow? My Oncologist has decided surgery will not be an option. Will Docetaxel be restarted again?

  • Hello and thanks for posting

It is difficult for us to answer your specific questions as we are not involved in your clinical care. Your specialist team are better placed to advise you on your treatment plan as they are familiar with all your medical details. If you have a breast specialist nurse involved in your care then perhaps they can provide you with further information. You often have to call and leave them a message and they will get back to you.

Docetaxel chemotherapy is usually given for a set number of cycles. It can put a strain on the body and 6 cycles is often the maximum to balance treating the cancer whilst protecting your overall health. Phesgo focuses more on targeting the cancer cells specifically which is different from chemotherapy in how it works. It is known as a targeted treatment and it aims to keep the  cancer under control and can often be continued longer term as it generally has fewer intense side effects than chemotherapy. You can read more about these drugs on our website.

I'm afraid we can't tell you if you will be able to restart docetaxel in the future. Oncologists do sometimes revisit chemotherapy but this will depend on how your cancer responds to Phesgo and how well your overall health is.

I hope this reply is of some help. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
