Biochemical recurrence of prostate cancer

Hi, i had my prostate removed in 2017, and had undetectable PSA until this year. It has now gone from 0.2 through 0.3 to 0.4 since April this year.

I have no bone pain that I’m aware of, and none of the other symptoms described on the web.

Trestment options are scary as hell, so I wonder how soon I need to start, as I can’t find any narrative that gives a range of options.

im too young for chemical castration, and becoming incontinent from my bowels

help!

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am not sure whether you have had discussions with your doctor about the possible need for more treatment as they are the best people to advise you on the type of treatment and how soon it should start.

Prostate Cancer UK have some information about the choices of treatment when cancer comes back which you might find helpful to look at. I am not sure whether the doctors will want to do further tests or scans before they decide whether or not you need more treatment at this stage.

We have some more information on our website about possible treatment if your prostate cancer comes back.

As it is a while since you had treatment for prostate cancer you may not have a prostate cancer nurse so do discuss this with your urologist or talk to your GP who may be referring you back to the urologist.

Your doctors have all your medical information and know what treatment you have had before. The doctors will also take in to account your general fitness, your opinion, and what treatment you have had before in deciding how to treat if this is what they feel that they need to do at this stage.

Do talk to the doctors about any fears and concerns that you might have about any possible treatment options. I would also not search for options on the internet which is general and does not refer to your own situation.

If you would like to talk through any of this with one of the helpline nurses then you are welcome to give us a ring.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the best,

    Catherine
