Pain after chemo radiotherapy treatment

I have had 32 cycles of chemo radiotherapy for a carcinoma at the base of my tongue 3 months ago and most side effects have eased but I still have aching when eating? Why ?

  • Hello Mickey, and thank you for posting.

I am afraid I do not know exactly why you still have pains in your tongue, but it can take a little while for all treatment side affects to calm down.

Do make your team aware at your next follow up appointment and if necessary maybe take some painkillers half an hour before eating to see if that helps. The tongue is a muscle and just like the rest of the body it can need time to get back to how it was before this all started.

Take care Mickey. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.
