Consultation over the phone - why would this be?

Hello everyone.

My partner has had a lump on his inner thigh for quite some time.. I want to say maybe 1-2 years. He had gone to the GP about 2-3 times and was always kind of brushed away by the GP saying it was a cyst. So, 2 weeks ago he went again, and finally the GP referred him to do an ultrasound. The results came back with “high suspicion sarcoma”. He has now been referred for a consultation, which will be over the phone. My question is, why is the consultation over the phone? and not bring him in straight away to do further testing? I am so worried..

  • Hi Callie and thank you for your post.

I'm sorry to hear about your partner's situation. I understand how stressful it can be to wait for his appointment.

These days, many first-time appointments are conducted over the phone. This method is considered easier and more time-efficient, especially given the long waiting lists and limited clinic slots.

During the phone call, the doctor can take a medical history and will have access to the ultrasound results. If further tests or scans are necessary, they can be scheduled more quickly, and a face-to-face appointment can be arranged to discuss the results.

I appreciate the waiting is difficult. I hope you know more soon.
