Fungal cancer under arm with lymphoedema .

Is this curable, manageable  should I be worried and I am struggling changing dressings.

  • Hello mygiddyaunt  and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation.

We do have several pages on our website about fungating wounds. They can be treated and  sometimes controlled but it is difficult to get rid of them all together.

Your doctors at the hospital who assess you are the best people to advise you about how this area can be treated as they have access to all your medical information. I am not sure whether you are having treatment for your cancer but don't be afraid to ask them questions.

Fungating wounds  are sometimes looked after by specialist nurses or Tissue Viability Nurses so they can give expert advice on dressings and any pain that you may be experiencing.

Do talk to your team to see what help and support you can get.

If you are having trouble dressing your wounds then it is very important that you let your team know. If you are at home then it is your GP who should be organising a district nurse at home or a practice nurse at the surgery. If you are having treatment at the hospital I would talk to the nurses there about getting help with your dressings.

I do hope that this helps.

You are very welcome to ring and chat this through with one of the helpline nurses. Our number is freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
