Waiting times

My brother was diagnosed with stage 2 prostate cancer on 21st June this year. He has had scans & biopsy was done in May. He is waiting for the surgery he was told he had to have but we are now at November and NHS app says wait time is 19 weeks from today. He has no treatment of any sort. He was told surgery,  radiotherapy  & hormone treatment back in June.

We thought the waiting was 62 days?

Can we do anything? He is scared & low

  • Hi there Lainey007 and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your brother's situation and the time it is taking to have treatment.

Whilst there are waiting times guidelines for cancer treatment, these are only recommendations. Unfortunately most cancer patients are waiting much longer for tests and treatments within the NHS at the moment, which of course is very unsettling for everyone involved.

We usually suggest patients contact the hospital involved to ask when the treatment is likely to take place. If your brother doesn't feel he is getting the answers or response he was hoping for then he could raise a complaint with the PALS Patient Advice and Liaison Service.

I really hope your brother knows more very soon.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the best

    Naomi
