Second biopsy

Hi my dad is 80 has had 3 different bowel test and just had second biopsy they have said on the paper work that colorectal cancer malignant lisons with crust and raised sides and there sending him for a pink X-ray next week don’t know what all this means confused

  • Hi and thank you for posting,

I am sorry to learn that your dad has been having tests, this must be a worrying time.

It sounds like the biopsy has confirmed that your dad unfortunately has cancer of the bowel (colorectal) and the report describes the abnormal area (cancer lesions) as raised with hard crusts. I am sorry this must be difficult to read.

I am unsure what is meant by your dad being sent for a pink x-ray. After your dad's colonoscopy (camera test that looks at the bowel) other tests are needed, to see whether or not the cancer has spread. This is called the stage of the cancer and knowing this helps the doctors to plan treatment.

I wondered if your dad has a colorectal nurse specialist (CNS) who could help clarify your dad's situation and what further tests he may need.

I hope this helps a little. Please feel free to get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Jemma
