We have just been told my mum has suspect primary lung cancer ( small cell). She has tracheal compression which required an airway stent. If it is primary lung cancer and causing this compression, does that mean the cancer has spread ? Thank you

Hello and thanks for your post,
I think that you can't read too much in to it all until you have the results from the doctor and you both know more.
If your mum has a lung cancer nurse then do talk to them. Your mum may still be going through different investigations before they get the full picture and can then work out what her next steps are. We do have a page on our website about diagnosing lung cancer
Once all the tests have been done each patient is discussed in some detail at an MDT
I can understand how unsettling it can all be waiting and I do hope that you both know something soon.
If you would like to ring and chat through any of this with one of the helpline nurses then you are welcome to give us a call.
The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
All the best,
Catherine
