Cervical stenosis

I  am post menopause and since having a cin3 result and positive hpv I have had two Letz procedures. I have been for a smear and now have cervical stenosis ( so no sample could be taken at this time).

I'm really nervous  now as have too go back to my consultant!

  • thank you Naomi, I am just slightly confused as to why i need a further smear, the smear is not going to determine the severity of the cells, surely I need a colposcopy for this? my consultant said to do that he would need to put me under anaesthetic, so his solution was to have another smear and if cells come back abnormal again then we go straight for another letz.  I got an appointment for 4 weeks which is not too much of a wait.

  • Hello, and thank you for coming back to us.

I am afraid I am unable to answer this in further detail as we are not part of your care.

Whilst we can offer general support and information, it can be hard for us to know why all decisions are made.

Be assured that the doctor will be making decisions based always on what is the best course of action within a given individual situation.

Take care, and I do hope this all becomes clearer and is sorted for you soon.

    Sarah.

  • Thank you. I just got an appointment next week which i think doc is going to give local anaesthetic to investigate my cervix along with a smear.  I have a telephone appointment ahead of the procedure.  What happens during a,telephone appointment?

  • They'll just talk you through everything, make sure you are ok with it all. You can ask any questions you have then.

  • ah many thanks, i dont know about your consultants, but there communication can be quite confusing, one minute i was told you need a another smear, then the next thing i m having a telephone appt which makes me think i am having a procedure to widen cervix to have the colposcopy at least like you say the telephone appt will give me some assurance.

  • Hi there and thanks for getting back in touch

The phone call is likely to include asking you about how you are on the phone call and then talk through what will happen on the day of your procedure. There should be a chance for you to ask them any questions you may have as well as sharing any concerns with them. It may be a doctor or a nurse who calls you.

I hope all goes well and try not to worry too much if you can.

    All the best

    Naomi
