Mole

Hi

Looking for advice please. I discovered a mole on my back over the weekend, sadly in a not particularly reachable location, which is found but dry and rough to the touch. It is normal mole colour perhaps a shade lighter. Due to its location I’m unsure how long I’ve had it.

My question is - do I wait the nearly four week to see my GP or should I go to A & E ?

Thanks

Chris

  • Hello Chris and thanks for posting

I'm sorry you are worried about a mole. Moles can change over time but it is important that anything that looks different is checked out to be on the safe side. GPs are very used to assessing moles and if they suspect something isn't right they will refer to the dermatologist (skin specialist).

The NHS website has some information on getting your moles checked by your GP. Many people are having to wait longer now to see a GP.

Accident and Emergency Departments are for people who have injuries or life-threatening emergencies. Patients are advised to contact their GP when they have persistent symptoms. You can read more on the NHS website when people should go to Accident and Emergency Departments.

I hope this helps. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene

  • I'd be looking to change surgery if it's a four week wait for an appointment. Try telling the receptionist that it's concern about a mole and that if there's potentially suspected cancer when the GP sees it it's supposed to be seen within 2 weeks so waiting for 4 weeks just to have that initial assessment is out of order.
