Recovery after chemo

My husband has just finished chemo therapy following bowel cancer surgery. He has little or no appetite. His tase is affected. What food supplements can I give him to help his recovery?

  • When I finished my chemo I was the same so I just eat what I fancied , it does get better but took me a good 9 months to get an appetite back So slow & steady

  • I found chemo took away my appetite but then I am not a foodie anyway.  However as a former Science teacher who has taught that we need a balanced diet so I made sure I applied that to myself, whether I wanted to eat or not.  So 3 meals a day, even small ones with a good coverage of different nutrients.  Making this a routine helped.

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry to read about your husband's situation. This must be a difficult time for you both.

Cancer treatment such as chemotherapy can cause taste changes and loss of appetite. We have information on our website on eating and managing diet problems and on nutritional drinks. There are protein and energy supplements. which are powders or liquids. They contain either energy or protein with a small amount of energy. You can add them to many different foods and drinks.

I hope this is of some use. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
