Actinic Keratosis

I have Actinic Keratosis on my scalp where my hair is quite fine. I have been given Solaraze to use. After using it for three days I have awful stomach pains, could this be the cream? I have also got two red patches come up near it, could this just be the cream causing my skin to react? I am worried it’s more Actinic Ketatosis. I struggle to put the cream in the correct place as the AK is on the top of my scalp

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry to read about your situation.

Solaraze ( which contains the drug diclofenac) can sometimes lead to side effects including stomach discomfort. This is more common when the medication is taken by mouth rather than applied on the skin. However, when applied over a larger area or if you have sensitive skin, a small amount of the medication  might get absorbed in to your system causing mild stomach issues.

The red patches on your scalp  may be a skin reaction to the cream, as Solaraze can sometimes cause skin irritation or even a rash.

The best thing to do is to speak to your GP or dermatologist for further advice. They will assess you and they may adjust the application instructions or suggest a different treatment option that might be easier for you to cope with.

I hope things improve for you soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene

  • Thank you for replying. I saw a different doctor tonight as my head was blistering and she said I had a reaction to the cream but what she also said was that she doesn’t think it is AK and in fact it’s nothing to worry about. I am so confused!

I have made an appointment to see a private dermatologist next week for a specialist opinion
