Issues with wound healing

Hi, I had a mastectomy with diep flap reconstruction 12 days ago. My stomach wound is from hip to hip and most of it has healed beautifully. However, a section about and inch long just won't heal. It's oozing what seems to be a yellow puss, which I clean daily and redress.  I'm currently on antibiotics and due back in clinic on Tuesday. I'm just not sure what else they can do to get this to heal. I have no temperature and do not feel unwell, but am still concerned about it.

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to hear about your situation.

Wound healing can take some time, and hopefully the antibiotics will help with this. Sometimes different wound care products can be tried to help. Your team may seek the advice of a hospital tissue viability nurse, who can advise on specific wound dressings to encourage healing.

I hope that this gets sorted out for you soon,

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Yours sincerely,

    Vanda

  • Thank you for your reply. I went for a wound dressing yesterday and they reassured me that there was no infection. The yellow I was worried about was just the scab trying to form. It's taking time as this small part of the wound is still a bit wet. They have now dressed with an inadine dressing, to help healing.
