Unsuccessful hysteroscopy

I had an unsuccessful hysteroscopy and biopsy on Friday under a general anesthesia due to my cervix being too far back and tight. They tried 3 different ways. I'm 5 years post menopausal with just 1 week spotting and pelvic cramps. I've now been put on a 2 week urgent referral for an mri  I had an ultrasound which said my ovaries looked okay but the lining of my womb was 12. My question is will an mri pick up cancer or will I need a biopsy?  Thanks

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry to read about what's been happening. It sounds like it's been a frustrating and uncomfortable process for you.

An MRI scan is often recommended when it's difficult to get a biopsy as it gives a detailed image of the tissues in your pelvic area, including the womb. This can help the doctors see any unusual growths or thickening or other changes in your womb lining that could indicate cancer or other conditions. MRI's can give a clearer picture and sometimes even provide enough information for doctors to decide if there's any cause for concern.

If  anything suspicious shows up on the MRI they may suggest another way to do a biopsy but your healthcare team will advise you further on this.

I hope everything turns out to be okay. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
