Suspected Lung Cancer

Hi

My partner recently had a CT scan after attending an appointment concerning a persistent cough. At the time the Pulmonary consultant said he didn’t think it was anything to worry about.

She has now received and appointment with an Oncology consultant, but this isn’t until the 5th Nov.

She is obviously now very scared, upset and angry. It is very difficult to know what to say to her, is there any where to get advice. Does being sent to an oncology department mean its definitely a cancer? Is there any way of getting an earlier meeting.

We have a 5year old daughter and she is distraught that she will not see her grow up, just after to some advise on how to help her

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

I am sorry that you and your wife are in this situation, this must be causing a lot of anxiety.

It is difficult to say what has been found on the scan, and until you see the doctor it is hard to say anything for definite. There could be several different things found on her lungs and oncologists are experts in their field so would be able to talk these through, but it may even be that more investigation is needed.

With all of this uncertainty, emotions will be running high, but until you know more, life is a bit in the air. Do tell your wife she can call our helpline if she wants to talk things through with one of our nurses. Or do feel free to call us yourself.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

Take care, and I hope you know more about your wife's situation soon.

    Sarah.
