Bowel cancer

Hi there, I recently went to the doctor as I had cramping in my tummy and they did some tests.  I've had the results of a poo test which was positive and my CRP levels are very high so my GP is referring me to the colorectal investigations department at my lical hospital.  Im a little in shock as i thought it was ibs.  I just can't stop worrying that I'm going to die.  Sometimes when I go to the toilet there is blood when I wipe.  Could these symptoms be other conditions and nit cancer.  I'm so scared.  I have an initial telephone consultation but it's not until next week.

  • Hello Kezzy and thank you for posting.

I am sorry you have these concerns about the results of recent tests.

There are many reasons for a positive FIT test and out-of-range CRP results, not just cancer. Irritable bowel, polyps, and inflammatory bowel disease can all cause blood in poo.

Often these symptoms will be investigated with a colonoscopy. to find out what is the cause for you, this may be discussed at your telephone appointment.

Take care Kezzy, and hopefully you will know more soon.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
