Hysteroscopy scan

I had on today as I have had post menopausal spotting the doctor took a biopsy of my womb lining as it was enlarged and removed a cyst now I'm terrified I have cancer

  • Hi Tracey and thank you for posting

I am sorry you have these worries about womb cancer. There are other reasons for post-menopausal bleeding that aren't cancer. One of the most common is endometrial hyperplasia.

Doctors will always take biopsies so that the cells in the womb lining can be looked at under a microscope. Cysts are not cancer, but again the doctors may remove them anyway if causing symptoms.

Hopefully, you won't have long to wait until you know more about the biopsies, until then do try to keep away from the internet as it can cause more anxiety.

Take care Tracey and if you find it helpful talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline the number is Freephone 0808 800 4040. The lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.
