Zoladex reaction

Hi, have been taking Zoladex for 9 months. Had 2* 3 monthly injection. During last 7/8 weeks all my muscles are seizing up / extremely painful. Gone from very fit 74 year old to almost unable to get out of a chair in a few weeks. Been given the option of stopping Zoladex or managing with analgesics. Very reluctant to stop Zoladex (it is working) are there any other analgesics other than ibuprofen/paracetamol.

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

It is tricky as stronger painkillers do come with some side effects, such as constipation.

We have information on types of painkillers on our website. There are other conditions that have similar symptoms too, such as polymyalgia rheumatica and also low vitamin D levels can cause joint weakness. Do discuss this with your GP. They may suggest other medications such as low dose steroids. Ask about any physiotherapy support.

Hot baths or showers can help the muscles, as can some muscle creams. Do try and maintain some daily stretching exercises to help with the muscle stiffness. The NHS have chair exercises on their website.

    I hope that this helps,

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Yours sincerely,

    Vanda
