Waiting on ultra Sound in groin lymph nodes

Hi all,

I have a pathology referral for an ultrasound on a swollen lymph nodes on my groin, that has been there about four months.. It's hard and does not move easily. My GP felt it and also asked some questions and stated that she wanted to rule out cancer but also find out why it was swollen. She has referred me for a pathology ultra sound but this has not been fast tracked.

However, I have cyst on my tonsil and have received a fastrack referral to rule head and neck cancer, I'm a little confused.

My question is, given NHS waiting times and without my referral being fast tracked, does anyone know roughly how long I maybe waiting for the ultra sound appointment?

  • Hi and thank you for posting,

I am sorry to learn you are needing to have investigations, I can imagine this is a worrying time for you.

The best person to clarify what your situation is would be your GP.

If they have said they want to rule out cancer with an ultrasound on the lymph node, but you have a non urgent appointment, it is best to check that the right referral has been done.

I am unsure where you live. If a referral has been made non urgently then there could be a wait for up to a few months, this may vary between hospitals depending on what their waiting times are like.

Do double check with your GP that the right referral has been made.

I hope this all gets sorted out for you soon.

    Take care,

    Jemma
