Newly diagnosed, expecting CT soon, then surgery - should I try to bring my COVID/Flu boosters forward?

Hello

Diagnosed with Stage 1c1 ovarian cancer this week after a BSO 4 weeks ago, and my head is spinning. Trying to take back some element of control. Currently waiting on CT scan (expected within 3 weeks) and told to expect 'completion surgery' to get rid of all remaining bits very soon after, definitely before Xmas.

My immediate question is about my COVID and flu boosters which are currently booked for mid-Nov. Should I try to bring it forward to get them done in advance of the next operation?

Sitting and waiting for EVERYTHING is horrible and HARD.

Thank you.

  • Hello MrsBun and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation. It would be a good idea to get your COVID and flu boosters done before your forthcoming operation.

I am not sure where the vaccinations are booked but if it is through your GP then you could explain to the receptionist about your forthcoming operation. The NHS have produced some information on booking vaccinations for flu and COVID which you might find helpful to look at.

I do hope that your operation goes well.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the best,

    Catherine

  • Thank you Catherine. I rang the NHS Scotland Winter jags helpline and they were so kind and helpful... I had my Winter jags today at the community hospital. The CT is on Tuesday, a tiny bit earlier than expected. It's still a horrible situation so am living one day at a time, one appointment at a time. Thank you for your kind and helpful advice.
