Tongue squamous cell carcinoma

Age 55. I have squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue.

My consultant will surgically remove the effected area under general anesthesia.

I will not be receiving any further treatment, other than follow up appointments to check my condition.

In this instance, would I qualify for a medical exemption certificate.

    I am not sure whether you can get a medical exemption certificate if you are having a one off surgical treatment for your cancer.  We do have a page on our website about Free prescription certificates

    Macmillan have some more information on their website. You need to get a FP92A form from your doctor's surgery to apply for a certificate.

    I would check with your GP though to make sure as I can understand looking at the information it does not look completely clear.

    I am sorry that I am rather sitting on the fence.

    Thanks. To me it looks 50 50 and possibly to the discretion of the gp. As an example if you have a cancerous skin legion removed by freezing with no further on-going treatment then you would not be able to get an exemption certificate. 

    So what I am having done may be similar. 

    I had an mri scan on my neck to check lymph nodes and all was clear.
