Bladder cancer/bladder removal

I had a TURBT on Monday and afterwards the surgeon said he thought I would have to have my bladder removed because of how much the cancer has spread inside my bladder. How important is speedy progress to the operation now? In other words, how fast might my cancer spread?

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry to read about your situation. This must be a difficult time for you.

A TURBT is often the first step to understand more about the bladder cancer and to remove as much of the tumour as possible.

How quickly you need to have further bladder surgery and how fast your cancer might spread varies for each person. Your healthcare team will use the information from the TURBT and other tests like CT or an MRI scan to determine the stage and grade of the cancer. This will help them decide how quickly they need to act.
