Worried!

Hi,

im just after a little reassurance as I’ve got myself in a tiz this evening

I’ve recently had two surgeries on my right breast due to having invasive ductal cancer and due to there being no clear margins after my first surgery. The breast teams first thought was that my lymph nodes were clear but during the operation and samples  taken, cancer was found albeit it was at 1.5mm so not too concerning, the reason I am worried this evening is I’ve found a lumpy nodule in my armpit on my left side where I’ve had no issues and ive never had or felt anything under that arm previously and all was clear back in May when I was first diagnosed on my right breast, it may be nothing and I’m worrying due to having breast cancer, but I’m in a bit of turmoil this evening and not sure what to do as I don’t want to feel silly if it’s nothing

  • Checking nodes of those living with a prior cancer diagnosis is a big part of what the health professional's job is. Don't feel silly. All it would be is good news if it's nothing.

  • I’ll call my breast nurse Monday and take it from there.

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation and appreciate that this is a worrying time for you.

While I don't know if this lumpy area is anything to be worried about it would be best to get it checked out by your breast team.  They will not mind doing this.

I think it is easy to be more aware of your body when you are diagnosed with cancer, not everything you see or feel will be related to cancer but it is worth getting it checked out to be on the safe side and hopefully get some peace of mind.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
