Clear fluid from nipple really really worried

Hi, just looking for some support please. Last night I noticed when doing a breast exam and I gently squeezed my left nipple and clear fluid appeared on it. I also checked my other nipple (I had to squeeze quite hard but I also had some clear fluid on this one appear).
The same thing this morning again right nipple had to squeeze quite hard but some small clear fluid - left fluid appeared more freely.
I’ve been to the GP she has referred to breast clinic but more to do with fiborous breast tissue on one of my breasts that has already been ultra sound checked and fine. She said discharge is common and would be more worrying if it was red or bloody. I’m panicking and need HELP please

thanks so much

  • P.s. I’m trying to tell myself because I’ve seen it on both it’s less likely to be sinister. Anyone have any advice please?

  • Hello and thank you for your enquiry. I'm sorry you have a current health worry.

The NHS have written some good information on nipple discharge.  They do say that without any other symptoms other than nipple discharge, it is unlikely to be cancer, but it is important to have it properly assessed. You can read more about this on their website

There are quite a few breast conditions (not cancer) that cause discharge, even hormone level fluctuations. It is quite common in younger women.

But please stop squeezing your nipples to encourage discharge, this can increase the chance of getting a breast infection, and causes breast tissue swelling.

I hope your breast clinic visit goes well.

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
