Bone scan and CT scan prior to neoadjuvant therapy. Why?

I have been recently diagnosed with breast cancer (lobular). My tumour is just over 2cm and has not gone into my lymph nodes. . Within a 7cm area of the breast,  they have found 2 smaller, but similar tumours. I will be having neoadjuvant therapy. However my surgeon has suggested a Ct scan and also a Bone scan prior to the therapy. I’m curious as to why? Thanks in advance.

  • To check the extent and get the best plan for your treatment.  Trust in your professionals , I had all of the above and the bc was just where they'd found it it. The earlier the better so take whatever they want to check and whatever they can hit it with :) . They're just being super careful.  Good luck xxxxx

  • Hey there choccie and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis and appreciate this must be an anxious time for you.

Sometimes doctors want to be thorough by arranging further scans just to make sure nothing has been missed. This shouldn't affect you having the neo adjuvent chemotherapy though, so try not to worry or over think this too much for now.

Wishing you all the very best but please do get back to us if you have further questions.  You are also very welcome to call us on our helpline, 0808 800 4040, 9am till 5pm Mon-Fri.

    Take care
