Confused

Since Last Xmas I have had numerous tests- all negative. First of all xray looked like pneumonia but nit definate ar bottom of right lung/ gave me a mucus cough.Since then I have had 2 CT scans- bronchoscope- needle lung biopsy / finally diagnosed with organused pneumonia and given steroids- took last steroid 3rd Aug. For last 9 weeks have lost use if legs- absolute agony and called proximal myopathy! Have been paying to go for physio. Was told diagnosis was wrong and steroids did nothing although lung has improved slightly. Was told only 2 options left- either inflammation ir cancer so had pet scan laat Thurs which did show some abnormality at bittom of lung but they dont know what! Have now been asked to have another needle biopsy but have asked for alternative. I am so stressed and scared- have completely lost my appetite.Have asked to see someone higher as cant take no more! Had to cancel cruise 3 weeks ago as couldnt walk.  Any advice please?

Thankyou for reading xx

  • Hello Dancing feet and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your symptoms and the time it is taking time to get answers about what may be going on for you.

I can appreciate how frustrating this must be for you and it is understandable to wish to take this higher. You could ask for a second opinion, which there is more information about on the patients association website. This could be at a different hospital, if you are willing to travel further afield.

Symptoms can be caused by many things and when a suspicious area is highlighted on a scan there can also be several explanations for it. Sometime it is a process of elimination but often a biopsy is the only real way of identifying what it is and ruling out cancer.

I really hope you know more soon so you can get the most appropriate treatment.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes
