Cervical cancer stage 4a

Hi everyone. I found out I had cervical cancer about 2 months ago. I have had two cycles of chemotherapy so far. I am due to have one more. They are 3 weeks apart. Then on to chemoradiotherapy, radiotherapy every day for 5 weeks and chemotherapy once a week for the 5 weeks. It's just, this all seems such a small amount to me. Others are having much more treatment that are in the same situation as me. My consultant said it is too fit it all in before Christmas so there are no breaks. It would be due to be finished around the 18th December. Then will I spend all of Christmas worrying if it worked? And what if it was rushed? Would I be allowed more treatment in the New Year or not? I feel very scared right now.

  • Hello DebMollyW and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear you are currently undergoing treatment and appreciate what an anxious time this can be for patients.

It sounds like you are having appropriate treatment for the type and stage of cervical cancer you have. We have more information about this on our having chemoradiotherapy for cervical cancer webpages. This explains how 3 weekly cycles of chemotherapy prior to 5 weeks of chemoradiation where radiotherapy is given Mon-Fri and chemo weekly is a standard treatment regime for many women in a similar situation to you.

Do discuss any concerns you have with your team. Although I am sure they are wanting to give you the treatment that will give you the best possible outcome. Once your treatment has completed they will assess how successful this has been. If at any point in the future you need to have further treatment they will offer this to you.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Wishing you all the best

    Naomi
